An Assassin’s Bullet

Begins a World War

The influence of Browning weapons in twentieth century war is truly remarkable. The Browning engineered FN (Fabrique Nationale) 1910 handgun was used to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, on June 28, 1914, leading to the outbreak of the Great War just five weeks later.

The gun seen here is particularly significant as it belonged to Brigadier General Richard W. Young, also an important LDS figure during World War I. The gun includes a personal inscription from John Moses Browning to his friend.
