Nurses Week May 6-12, 2010
On March 25th 1982, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation officially declaring May 6, 1982 as “National Recognition Day for Nurses”. In 1990 The American Nursing Association Board of Directors expanded the recognition of nurses to a week-long celebration, declaring May 6 – 12, 1991 as National Nurses Week. Since that time, National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
- BYU nursing students and faculty traditionally provide free blood pressure screening at several campus locations during Nurses Week.
- Birthday cake will be served in the Spencer W. Kimball Tower in honor of Florence Nightingale on May 6.
