Leland I. Selvey

Impact on the Second Treaty of Versailles

Born on September 10, 1895 in Lamar, Missouri, Leland I. Selvey spent his life in Lamar except for his stint in World War I. His role in France was as a typist, and he worked on the second treaty of Versailles.

His experience in post–armistice France was somewhat glamorous. Good food, theater attendance, and travel to Versaille and other French sites marked his stay in France. After World War I, Selvey returned to Lamar and was very active in the community, serving on the school board and as a PTA president. He was also involved in veterans’ groups like Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Selvey passed away on October 18, 1979 in Lamar, Missouri.
